Scholarships available through Financial Aid

The following scholarships are offered through Financial Aid:

Africa Community Service Fund

The purpose of each $2,000 award is to provide financial assistance to students to travel to Africa to plan and implement their own community service initiatives or to participate in field courses or unpaid COOP placements.

Note: Community service activities cannot be implemented in an African country where the Government of Canada has issued an 'avoid non-essential travel' advisory.

Latin American Community Service Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to students carrying out community service in these countries: Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.

Alex Trebek Innovation and Challenge Fund

This Fund seeks to identify, develop and apply promising approaches to pressing social and development issues in Canada and around the world. The Fund will encourage advancement in all sectors that have an impact on the ability of people to live healthy and productive lives. It will also be available to support participatory action research in conjunction with new and existing Community Partners.

Allan Rock Scholars Fund 

This fund was created to award scholarships to students who best exemplify the principles and purposes of the community and global engagement program at the University of Ottawa, by devoting their time and energy to volunteering or other forms of community service in order to improve the plight of others.

Gilles G. Patry Student Engagement Fund

This fund was established in 2008 in honour of former University of Ottawa president Gilles Patry, a champion of community service learning. The fund awards those who combine strong academic performance with outstanding service to the community.
